The Huskie Spirit Program consists of an undetermined number of
males, females, and mascots. The spirit program supports all
Huskie athletics but is responsible for cheering at football, men’s
and women’s basketball, and volleyball. The home of NIU football is
Huskie Stadium (31,000); for volleyball home is Victor E. Court
(800); and for NIU basketball the Convocation Center is home
(9,100). The Convocation Center opened in August of 2002 and
hosts concerts and other special events as well.

The cheerleaders typically practice three days a week, which
allows ample time for catching up on class work and making
appearances. Practices are open to the public and you are advised
to call ahead of time if you are interested in visiting to make sure a
practice hasn’t been cancelled or the location changed. You may
participate in a practice as long as you provide proof of insurance.
You must bring the proof of insurance with you to the practice you
attend.

The Huskie cheerleading program supports all cheerleading
organizations but competes nationally. The NIU cheerleaders
continue to receive bids to compete for the national championship.
NIU has been ranked nationally for many years and will continue to
make a climb toward a national championship this year. Our
highest finish thus far has been national runner-up.
